Whitehorse - Whitehorse
15-day fully guided small group tour (max 9 guests)
or extend the trip to 23 days by adding the Alaska Highway - Rocky Mountains Tour

Enjoy blazing fall colours while traveling from Whitehorse, capital city of the Yukon, all the way up to Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean. The famous Dempster Highway, one of the most spectacular roads in the world, is a destination in itself. We will visit historic gold rush towns Dawson City and Atlin and discover ghost town Elsa and charming Keno on the Silvertrail. Spectacular fall colours, fascinating history, and unique nature and wilderness are all part of this 2-week journey through two territories in North-Western Canada.

Day 1 Arrival and overnight in Whitehorse. Time to explore Whitehorse and its surroundings. Welcome-Drink.

Day 2 We follow the Klondike Highway north to Dawson City and we will take time to stop for pictures along the Yukon River, which winds its way over 3000 km through the Yukon and Alaska. Short hike to the famous 5-finger rapids. Ancient roadhouses, a few native settlements and the occasional lodge are the only signs of habitants in this incredibly vast area. Overnight in comfortable cabins in Dawson City, the once called “Paris of the North” and main action place during the great Klondike Gold rush. There is lots to discover in this charming town full of history.

Day 3 Early start to head north up the legendary Dempster Highway and we will travel through the Tombstone Mountains. Fall colours at their best, an incredible display. We will take lots of time for stops and short strolls and hikes and to enjoy the unique views. Overnight in Eagle Plains.

Day 4 Shortly after Eagle Plains, we will cross the Arctic Circle, another great photo opportunity. Great views toward the Richardson Mountains while traveling through mountains and the tundra ablaze in fall colours. By ferry we cross the Peel River and the mighty Mackenzie River and visit the town of Fort McPherson. End of the afternoon we will arrive at the end of the road, in Inuvik where we spend three nights in cabins next to a small lake.

Day 5 A scenic flight over the impressive western arctic landscape and the Mackenzie River Delta will take us to Tuktoyaktuk, a hamlet on the Beaufort Sea. Local Guides will give us a tour and you can dip your toes into the Arctic Ocean. During a traditional lunch we will learn more about local customs and life in this remote town. The flight back gives us great views of the famous pingos.

The Richardson Mountains are just simply stunning and with a bit of luck we will be able to spot grizzly bears and caribou. Overnight in Eagle Plains. Option : Instead of driving the Dempster Highway, you can opt to fly back to Dawson City from Inuvik (see below for details).

Day 8 Before we continue to Dawson City we will go for another hike in the Tombstone mountains. In the evening we will visit Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Saloon und Casino (incl.)
